Marked this one as “Permanently Closed.” Retro Fitness is moving in there and has signs up (if it hasn’t opened yet). Sad to see this place go - I remember seeing “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” here opening weekend and the lines stretched all the way down the strip mall. Later had a lot of great movie nights with my own kids. The prices were great, and the staff was wonderful and friendly. It’ll be missed.

I wonder if they’ll leave that musty basement smell… you know, for old times' sake.

I guess the big question is when it does open, will we be able to bring cough drops into the theater? :–)

This article has a target date of Fall 2012. I haven’t been by there – does it look like they’ll make it?:

As I said, I was only seven at the time, so my memory is a bit hazy. But I’m fairly certain that this is the place where I saw “Popeye,” “Superman II” and “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” though!

God, I haven’t been to this venue in nearly 20 years. How’s she holding up?

I’ve been to a few shows over here and the CM group is quite good. Great talent, great shows. Highly recommended. (And no, I am not affiliated with them!)

The theater is still in operation – barely. My wife and I came here a few weeks ago to see “Captain America” and it really looked like it was on its last legs. It was a Friday and both of us – who grew up in the area – were reminiscing about how it was wall-to-wall kids on weekends. Now, there were maybe a handful of people. Just pull the plug.

We had my son’s fifth birthday there and it was a blast. The staff was phenomenal and even the party run a little longer than it should have. It’s also the only theater that I know of that charges under $10 for first-run fare. Great, great theater.

I honest-to-God never thought they’d actually go through with restoring it as an arts venue. This is a great thing!

@Danglish – I don’t know if you saw the interior of the Plaza, but there really was no way to save or renovate it. I saw it on a website, can’t remember which, but it was really beyond saving. I’d say you were about twenty years too late…
