Sometime in the early eighties a man let off many rounds from a shotgun in the foyer. A worker was injured i beleive. there are still bullet holes in the ceiling mural to this day. Wheather it is the original mural or not i am not sure.

Nath again, have done some research. It turns out that this theatre, which is now un-used, And on Albert St. will be demolished in the coming year. The original architect of the metro was William Fountain. He was from the USA, and was working on the theatre in 1937. He was in flight from brisbane on buisness to sydney when the Stinson plane carrying him crashed into the lammington national park, QLD. His family’s where abouts have never been traced. He was from New York city USA. The theatre couldn’t get a ‘historical’ label attached to it.

I remember seeing a few films there: Romancing the Stone, The Karate kid, and ‘Look Who’s Talking’ which was the last i saw there with the knowledge that it would be torn down. I remember canvas seating downstairs, and leather upstairs. from memory it was around $3 upstairs (child) and a $1-$1.50 downstairs. It is know an ugly AquaMarine building.
