The Marlo Theater was located in the downtown Sugarhouse area in Salt Lake City. The theater opened as the Hyland Theater in 1920, but was renamed in 1931.

It is said that the theater is now a chinese restaurant.

This would be the Koung Jou Cafe, which has a street address of 1011 E 2100 S. It was Chinese restaurant when I moved here in February, 1969, and still is.

The Marlo Theater is listed in the 1951 Film Daily with 570 seats. The Marlo is not listed in 1955.

LM, in the photos that Grant has listed for the Marlo Theatre he states that the theatre is now the Utrecht Art Supplies. That is not correct, the theatre is about three buildings down from there, if you look in the bottom left picture you can see the Kuong Joe Cafe which is the former theatre.

Did Chipotle keep the marquee and vertical riser that Kuong Cafe had?

It is hard to believe that the Kuong Jou is gone, we used to go there to eat either before or after a movie at the Southeast just down the street. But then again it is hard to believe that the Villa is not longer a movie theatre. Utahguy, you must have moved to SLC when I went out there to college. At that downtwon had a hub of theatres, the Rialto played Butch Cassidy it seemed like for ages. Downtown had some theatres in the late 60's and early 70's, the Towne, Capitol, Studio, Utah, Center, Uptown, Rialto and the Lyric. I think the only one left operating is the Capitol but not as a movie theatre.
