The Longview Theatre was opened in 1941 with 700 seats in orchestra and balcony levels, it was closed in 1955. It was re-opened on November 26, 1970 with Barbra Streisand in “Hello Dolly”. The theatre was totally renovated in 1996 by Act 3 Theatres of Portland, Oregon. As part of the renovation, new seats, a new screen, new projection system, new digital sound system, and a snack bar were installed.
The theatre was closed in the late-2000’s. Later sold and gutted to make the interior a skate park, it also had some use as a rock concert venue. In 2012, it was converted into live theatre use by Stageworks Northwest.

We plan to restore the neon also!
I just added a couple of pictures I took of the front of theater in 1999.
Hey Bethany, I know it doesn’t help right now, but as soon as you get the new marquee up and running, I’d love to photograph your theater and donate the photos to you guys, if it would help in future fundraising. You can check out the kind of photography I do here. As a matter of fact, I called Tin Cusic, I think his name was, and talked to him about that. I’d love to see your theater restored to it’s original glory.
That would be so cool Mikey! We would appreciate that so much! Your Photography is awesome! Thank you so much for the generous offer!!

So how did the fundraiser go?
The new marquee was installed in August 2014, with different colors and neon dressing that compliments the art-deco colors chosen for the facade. The red neon LONGVIEW blinks on and off, and LCD twinkling border lights have replaced the original incandescent bulbs.
