The Odeon Mezzanine Cinemas were built in what was an exit alley for the main Odeon Theatre, Leicester Square. The five screens opened on 20th April 1990, designed by architects Glyn Miller of Northern Building Design Associates. The facade of the building is faced in the same black marble tiles as the main Odeon Theatre facade and blend in well.

The Odeon mezzanine has a seperate box office and entrance to the main Odeon Theatre and the screens seat 60, 50, 60, 60 and 60.

Very small seating, are these art cinemas?

Films generally open at the Odeon Mezzanine and are shown as part of general release and con-current with other multiplex cinemas. Occasionally one of the screens will take a movie when it has finished its run in the main Odeon located next door.

Art house movies are played in the Odeon's, Panton Street and Wardour Street (both located a stone's throw away off Leicester Square). Both these cinemas have 4 screens each, which are double the size of the Odeon Mezzanine screens!

The seats are wide, the raking isn't bad and overall they have a bit of a screening room feel and often your last chance to catch something you want to see...Have caught The Freshman and Rushmore here

The Odeon Mezzanine can be seen on the right of the main Odeon Leicester Square cinema here:

Very boxy cinemas and as stated above they do have that screening room feel about them which is rather nice. Never very busy as they tend to stretch out first run movies here way after the masses have seen them. Sat here many times with just me in the room. Way better than the awful Panton Street Odeon complex. Since Ken mentioned the Odeon Wardour Street back in March '05 they have now closed for good, the entire block is being demolished and a new hotel built. I cant decide which was worse Panton St or Wardour St- OK -both!
