The Center Theatre is still standing in downtown Gastonia but has been closed for years and is in very bad shape. The marquee still hangs over the entrance but peeking into the front doors the lobby and auditorium look like they're probably too far gone to be saved.

It was known as the Temple Theatre during the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's but changed to the Center in the 1960's. During the 1920's it was called the Ideal Theatre.

According to Bowers' "Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments" page 551, the "Ideal" theatre was equipped with a Reproduco organ made by the Operators Piano Co.

Anyone have any current photos of this building? Ownership status, etc.?

The local media reported that the Center will be demolished begining in January '09.
