- Jul 15, 2008 — Circle Cinema turns 80
The Circle Theatre opened on July 15, 1928 with the movie “Across the Atlantic” starring Monte Blue. It was closed in June 1978, but reopened on July 7, 1978 screening adult movies with “The Opening of Misty Beethoven” & “Barbara Broadcast”. It finished its days as an adult movie theatre which closed in 1991.
The Circle Theatre was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Also in 2003 it was acquired by the Circle Cinema Foundation, who also purchased two adjacent storefronts to the south of the theatre. Those renovated spaces now adjoin the original lobby space and house a gathering/reception area, a display of movie posters, and an art gallery for local artists to exhibit their work. In 2013, the main auditorium of the original theatre was renovated, and today the Circle Cinema boasts four screens.

Went to the Circle many times. The last time to see “Wait Until Dark” with Janet Hopkins. There used to be a barbershop next door(N) and that’s where I got my very first haircut.
