Named for Wallace Blankenship's wife Rose, this theater was housed in a unique brick building. It featured ornate inlaid brickwork, a scalloped roof line centered between scones on each side and many decorative windows. An angular sign with "Rose" in painted letters was attached vertically above an overhang that sheltered the entrance and ticket booth.

Although there was originally no marquee, in 1948 Wallace Theaters was celebrating its twenty fifth anniversary and the Rose had been updated with a tall new neon sign and marquee over the entrance.

A 1946 photo of the Rose Theater in Tahoka. Showing at the time was "Duel in the Sun" with Gregory Peck and Joseph Cotten.

(It just wouldn't be West Texas without a few tumbleweeds on the curb!)

Oops! The above caption is incorrect. It depicts the Wallace Theater in Tahoka. This is a 1946 photo of the Rose in Tahoka showing "Bringing up Father" starring Joel Yule and Tim Ryan.

And a 1948 photo of the remodeled Rose featuring the classic "Red River" with John Wayne and Montgomery Clift.
