The City Film House opened on 10th November 1995 and was a joint operation between Diamond Cinemas Ltd and the local town and district council.

The exterior of the building was given a Georgian style and had a coffee shop and confectionary counter on the ground floor. There are 2-screen on the first floor and another 2-screens above on the second floor.

The City Film House received an upgrade to modern day standards in 2004. It was closed on 29th June 2007, due to lack of business at that time. In 2008 it was taken over by the Ward Anderson, Empire Cinemas chain and underwent a 1 million GB Pound refurbishment. It was hoped to be re-opened by Christmas 2008 or in January 2009.
