Opened in 1925, Loew's New Rochelle Theatre closed in the late 1980's. By then, it had been converted into a twin-screen and was operated by RKO. It later operated as a nightclub, which has since closed.

There seems to be some confusion over this theatre, which was located at 595 Main Street. While it may have been known locally as Loew's State, it was always advertised in the circuit's newspaper advertising as Loew's New Rochelle. It was one of architect Thomas Lamb's rare large theatres with all of its seats on one floor, in this case 2,485 at the time of opening in 1925. Loew's eventually twinned the theatre before closing it in the 1970s. In 1987, it re-opened under RKO management after RKO closed down the nearby and larger Proctor's Theatre for reasons unknown to me. I also don't know for how long after that RKO operated the ex-Loew's theatre. RKO by that time was merged with Stanley-Warner and Century Theatres.

Loew's New Rochelle started showing hard (R) movies in the late 70's such as Flesh Gorden, which most likely lead to its ultimate demise.
Now a defunct night club. It stands vacant on a once lively strip of theaters and night clubs and bowling alley that lead the county in nightlife from the 50 to the early 90. This Part of Main St was the place to cruise

Here's an original program from the Loew's New Rochelle for the week of October 25, 1926. It just lists the address as "Main Street".

For a theater with this kind of pedigree....Thomas Lamb, 2,500 seats, Loew's and with its own newsletter no less, it is disappointing that there is precious little info about this theater on this page.

Apparently the theater still stands. What was the architectural style? Did it retain any of its interiors when it was twinned or when it was converted to a nightclub? What remains of the theater today? Is it salvagable?

Not-so-great scan from a newspaper clipping.

On June 21st, 1960, Loew's New Rochelle presented a "Miss No-Cal" Beauty Contest on stage. I wonder who won?
