This theater was built in 1940 by the Hutchinson Sugar Plantation in Na'alehu, Hawaii. It orginally had 550 seats and serviced a population of 8000 residents and 10,000 military troops stationed at South Point on the Big Island. The sugar plantation closed in 1996, and with fewer than 3000 total population, the theater ceased running first run movies and opened in 2003 as a plantation movie theater museum.

We have projection room paraphanalia, photos, a minature movie theater collection, and a Donald Duck collection on display and give guided tours of the projection room. We accept donations , have a guest sign-in book, and a pamplet about the theater and the surrounding Ka'u area.

The only address that I found for this theater is Mamalahoa Highway. Here is a link to a photo and some background on this theater:

Is that their address? I didn't post that because I thought it was their phone number! :)

Lostmemory, LOL if it was their phone number it would need another digit. Yes that is truely their address. Most of the addresses on the big island are much like the address of this theatre.

Charles....There is a theater listed on here in upstate NY that I can't remember the name of right now. Anyway, it had no address. I found a current photo of it and it was being used as a laundromat. There was a number on the front of the building and I assumed that it was the address of the building. I believe that Bryan pointed out to me that it was the phone number for the laundromat. Can you spell "embarrassed"? ;)

I remember that one and laughed at the time. Not at you but with you.

When I last saw the Na'alehu it must have been before the renovation because the theatre front did not have the gaudy colors that is there today.

This building does have a little too much color but on the other hand, if your trying to draw attention to the theater then its perfect.

This is a 2009 photo. It doesn't look like the building is being used for anything.
