The Lyric opened the same year as the nearby Palace and also showed early silent films.
According to The Northampton Book, the theater showed ‘high class animated pictures’ and lasted one year longer than the Palace, closing in 1917.
Today, the site of the old Lyric serves as offices for a local investment firm. But just across the street is a popular art house cinema, the Pleasant Street Theater, which also serves up high class pictures.

For years this was Sheehan’s Cafe, a very ornate bar. Closed late 1980s or early 1990s.
