Here is a picture of the former Ritz Theatre that I took in October 2010.
I was stuck at the Monroe Street/Park Avenue light today and I just so happened to recognize this building from the photographs. The address should be changed to 108 S. Monroe Street.
The pictures of the Ritz obviously are not the large black theater I remember. The area looks like it was on the west side of downtown, which wasn’t much in the 40’s.Tallahassee was such a small town well into the 60’s.
The theater due East of the capitol, down the hill,up the hill and near a Sears was what?It was at least a mile or more due East.
My gosh, get a life. There was a theater due East of the capital, about a mile.Could the name of the BIG negro theater on W.Tennessee St.be Ritz?Probably not.Ironic, but the theater was right nxt. to the Fiat dealer. The area around there was called Frenchtown back then.Never found out why.
If you are so perfect and a true researcher why did you only give the street for this theatre. If you are a true reseacher what was the address, you only half completed you task.
One of your comments reads “Perhaps a perfectionist is a more apt title”. In your case, maybe “anal retentive” is a more appropriate title. Next comment, “Let the weak and whiners depart”. Thats very good advice. Since your the only person on here that seems to whine all the time, I hope your departure will be soon.
A bully you say? Hardly my good man. Perhaps a perfectionist is a more apt title. Should LM and Charles continue making ‘mistakes’ the criticism shall continue. Mistakes should not be tolerated by true researchers. Let the weak and whiners depart.
The Ritz Theatre, Tallahassee is listed in the Film Daily Yearbook, 1941 with a seating capacity of 400. Same details are given in the F.D.Y, 1943 but with the information that it was being operated by Paramount Pictures Inc, under their subsidairy E. J. Sparks. In the 1950 F.D.Y. the seating capacity was 422.
You a bully Tom Scott if I wasn’t so old I would punch you in the nose. These peoples try hard to add good things here and you just make life miserable for them. I dislike you very much.
Thanks HawaiiGuy! I am just a mere mortal that makes mistakes. I can’t walk on water like Tom can. He believes that Tom is spelt “GOD”. Tom is a legend in his own mind and he thrives on other peoples mistakes. About a week ago, Tom aka God posted a message in the wrong section too. When it was pointed out to him, he claimed that someone moved the message and there was a conspiracy against him. So, he also makes mistakes but I admit to mine and he blames others for his.
Mr. Scott, why are you such a mean spirited person. I noticed on a few other posts that you have a nasty habit of putting people down. It seems the proper thing to do if you have more to post on a theatre to just post the additional information rather than make such uncalled for remakrs about others. I quit posting to this site for a long time because of people like you. It just is not what the site was established for. You remind me a lot of that character called Michael that used to post uncalled for remarks until they banned him from the site. Maybe they should consider you for the same circumstances.
Imperfection LM. Very unbecoming to you. You seem to be learning bad habits from your new friend. The Ritz Theatre was located on East College Avenue in Tallahassee.
There are too many Ritz theaters. I vote to eliminate some of them. (just kidding)
Yes, lostmemory, it does become confusing trying to research theaters with a common name.
Here are photos of the Ritz in Tallahasee:
