Purpleplay:

Here is more information on the Chief:

From the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, August 17, 2008. “According to Westbrook, Preston Smith and Wendell Bearden, who were then partners, opened the Arcadia in the 1930s. This was after they’d opened the Tech Theater together on College (now University) Avenue. After World War II, reported Westbrook, Bearden opened a new theater next door to the Arcadia – and named it the Arcadia, while renaming the older theater the Chief.”

The Chief and the Arcadia were actually two separate side-by-side small theaters on Ave. H. They were both open at the same time, and in later years they showed primarily Spanish-language films. The Arcadia is listed as open as late as 1967 in a Lubbock telephone directory.
