I remember my grandmother saying what a dump it was (sorry). She said rats ran freely inside (this was in the 30s or 40s) Dunno what’s there now if anything. It was in a very run down section of downtown.

This is from Boxoffice in June 1953. I think the reporter meant Lorain instead of Elyria, since both the Elvira and the Pearl were in Lorain.

Two Elyria theaters were added to the list of dark houses in Ohio. The Elvira, which has been playing weekends only, closed July 13. The Pearl closed July 16. Both are owned by the Zeglob estate.

The name is correct…my mother, who lived about five blocks from there, said they used to call it “the rat show”, because of its infestation of the beasties.

The Elvira was owned by my Grandmother Elvira Santarelli.
If Chuc1231 knows any history I sure would appreciate his input.
