City Cinema started out as a one screen theater. It later expanded to two screens.

I lived in thie area from 1973-74 and saw many films there with my grandmothers, who both lived in the area. For some reason, my most vivid memory is of Barbra Streisand in “What’s Up Doc?” My schoolbus used to pass the theater on my way to school (5th grade, 1973-74) and I always used to look out the window on Wednesday morning to see what the new movie for the week was.

I lived in CO-Op City for 6 years and went her a lot.Just an average twin cinema. Nothing special, but it was a first run house. Some of the films I remeber seeing there are Interiors, Carnal Knowledge, one of the Pink Panther movies, Busting, and many others.

According to an ad posted by RobertR for another theatre, in 1974 the little City Cinema at Co-op City was a Brandt house, and was playing a double-feature of Disney’s “Aristocats” and “Song of the South”.
