I’m shocked this theatre is still open. It was a dump 20 years ago, I could only imagine what it is like now. The lease must be very affordable. I’m also shocked that AMC hasn’t built a ‘monster plex’ in Marina Del Rey already.
There is a new Pavilions in this shopping center, but other than that there haven’t been any improvements for years. Additionally most of the businesses in the adjacent lot have folded, including Tower Records and Good Guys. I’m sure the rent is reasonable.
Function should be first run movies and chain is Regal Entertainment.
I remember after the Loyola and Paradise closed, we’d have to go here by default. The only good thing was the great video arcade next door, but that closed by the mid to late 80s. Besides being a lousy venue, the rule of thumb was to never wear anything identifying you with Westchester High unless you wanted the Venice High gangs to chase you away. I can’t believe that with the Bridge open and Loews across the street, that this boring little boxy multiplex is still around.
I remember the video arcade. There was a shooting there around 1986, some gang problem. The theater never seems very busy.

The UA Marina opened as a 4 plex in 1974 and expanded to a 6 plex in 1977.
The time is almost up on this place. The shopping center is going to undergo a remodel and not in the plans are the ua6. It may be almost 40 years old but its end is near.
Good riddance…
Honestly, I think the last time I went to the UA Marina was in 1983 with a few friends to see The Big Chill in the largest screen. It is surprising it has stayed open this long considering how terrible the theatres are. In the 70’s I thought they were bad, cannot image how they are now.
