Opened on May 4, 1952 as the Star City Drive-In. The opening movies were William Powell in “Dancing in the Dark” & Ginger Rogers in “The Groom Wore Spurs”. It was for the Caucasian population only. The name was changed to the 220 Drive-In in 1970 and it began screening adult movies. This drive-in was located on Franklin Road (US 220 south). Car capacity is listed at 250. The 220 Drive-In closed on May 4, 1988 with a double bill of adult movies:“French Kiss” & “Hunkamania”. It was replaced with a shopping center.

It was actually the first Wal-Mart in that part of the state. I remember going to that drive-in in 1985 (we were underaged, so we used a piece of plywood to circumvent the “severe tire damage”); they still used window speakers, which I found funny when watching porno. :)

This drive-in was located where Kohl’s is now. Approx. address is 4210 Franklin Road. The screen was facing away from the highway (near the back of what is now Home Depot).

Apparently in 1971 this drive-in faced obscenity charges for screening “Love Camp 7” however the charges were dropped when the drive-in agreed to never screen the film again.

Reopened as the 220 Drive-In on February 26th. 1970 with “Love Camp 7” an Naziploitation film, which was seized by police on March 4th. Grand opening ad posted.
