Mike, according to what Jim stated on 9/3/07 the theatre closed when the owner built a new theatre. The new location was just three blocks away, with the number of other theatres in Anderson I don’t think he would want to compete with himself.

I assume Jim is right on with his comment about the CAROLINA being a first run House and makes no sense to close a theatre playing Grade A product being Westerns or the latest Jerry Lewis Comedy.

The Carolina, downtown Anderson, SC., was operated until its closing
by the Osteen Family. Percy Osteen constructed a new Theatre, named
The Osteen, on N. Main Street, corner Greenville Street when the
Carolina closed. The Carolina ranked 2nd to the State Theatre in
Stature and 1st-run movies. It also featured Grade A Westerns and
was a very popular movie house in the 40’s and 50’s.
