This cinema was located at the far end of the Fairway Shopping Center on Route 9 North in Old Bridge. It opened in 1974 and closed in November 1978. The screen was 36' by 18' in an auditorium barely 25 feet wide at the stage! The stage was equipped with a curtain, and the screen had traveling masking, alowwing the sides of the screen to be adjusted according to the type of film being projected, either scope or flat. The booth was equipped with 2 Simplex XL projectors with Ashcraft Carbon Lamps….yep, actual changeovers every 18 minutes! I worked there for 3 years as a projectionist from January ‘75 until May 1978. The owners were a wonderful family from Iselin, NJ. However, the cost of running the theatre kept increasing and by November 1978, the theatre was closed for good, eventually being split up into retail space.

Remember this, tiny/cozy…Had some art movies, lo budget stuff like Macon County Line, and occasional “hi end” porn (Deep Throat).
I know Jerry Kampo from his days in the IATSE local. I remember when the theatre opened up and all the old local 379 guys were picketing for a contract. By the way, Jerry, this is Mark Pusillo, son of Joe Pusillo, who sadly passed away in Oct 1993.
