The theatre was previously known as the Metro. On November 8th, i940, the Metro re-opened as the Crane Theatre after a complete renovation including new seats, screen, and decorative lighting. New owner Frank X. Shay, a veteran of 27 years in the industry, introduced a policy of four program changes per week. The Crane Theatre would be open nightly, with matinees added on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. The first booking was “The Great McGinty” and “Sailor’s Lady.”
