The Town Theater opened in 1947 as a movie theater. Around 1974 the Town Theater closed. In March of 1998, the Friends of the Old Town Theater was organized. After almost four years of planning and renovating, the Town Theater was dedicated on February 22, 2002 as the J. Phillip Gibbs Jr. Centre for the Performing Arts.
