The Royal Theatre goes back to at least 1926 when it was the Grand Theatre, it became the Macon Theatre in 1931. No idea when it was changed to the Royal. In 1957 it was still known as the Macon Theatre

When I was a student at Truman during the 70’s we made many trips to Macon to the Royal for movies. It was not very plush inside. The candy counter used a cigar box for change. Glad it is still being used.

The last time I was in Macon, MO the Royal Theatre building was still standing, but did not appear to be operating. On the north side of town along HWY 63 is the Macon Cinema ( On the south side of town along HWY 63 is the Macon Drive In (, which is apparently still closed thanks to the “Storm of May 2004”.
