The River City Cinema was a very basic two screen, no frills cinema. The theatre was razed sometime during the mid-2000’s to allow for construction of two restaurants.

The theater was actually called River City Cinema. My grandparents owned it and I remember running around there as a kid especially when it closed down. R.C.C. are my grandmother’s initials, which lead to naming the theater River City Cinema.

I worked at River City Cinemas for a short time in the 1970’s. It was an excellent theater and it did a lot of business. I was hired by Dwade Cole (if I remember correctly). He was a great guy. I was sad to see this theater close. It was the nicest one in Monroe.
