Listed in the American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915 as the Decatur Theater at 612 Hamburg Avenue (today Wilson Avenue). This theater appears in the 1926 edition of the Film Daily Yearbook and has been re-named the Woodrow Theater at 610 Wilson Avenue. The Woodrow Theater is not listed in the 1930 Film Daily Yearbook which would indicate that it was a silent-era theater. An address search shows a Rimco
Pharmacy, Inc. located here today.

Film Daily Yearbook;1926 listed under Brooklyn has Arcade Theatre, 153 Green Street with 475 seats and Greene Street Arcade Theatre, 153 Greene Street with 400 seats.
Film Daily Yearbook;1927 listed under Brooklyn has Green Street Arcade Theatre, 153 Greene Street with 400 seats.
Spellings given here are as published. Confused?
I will leave this for someone with a more local knowledge to add
Thanks Ken. Okay, we have two names with one address. Sounds like another theater with an airdome built next to it. Its a Brooklyn theater, I should have known that it wouldn’t be simple. Maybe we should let shoeshoe14 add this one. :) I’ll snoop around and see what I can find on this theater.
This one is a little confusing because of the spelling of the name Green(e). There is a Green St listed for Greenpoint. When you map 153, the map returns 153 George Apen St. Thats okay because the street name could have been changed. There is also a Greene Ave (with an “e”) and its original name was Greene St. There is no 153 address listed for Greene Ave. The only number close to that is 154 which is a public school. The odd numbers close to this address are 145 and 165 Greene Ave.
I’ll assume that it was Green St aka George Apen St in Greenpoint. That would be located by Manhattan Ave. The City lists a warehouse at that address with a build date of 1908. Is this theater listed in the American Motion Picture Directory? If it was in Greenpoint, this theater would have been about one block from the Midway Theater.
I had difficulties mapping, which is why I left it alone rather than make mistakes. No, it’s not listed in the American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915. There is a Majestic Theatre listed in that book, located at Seneca Avenue and Greene Street, Brooklyn, but I believe this is actually in Queens! As I said>>>>>confused!
There is a Majestic Theater listed in 1914 on Seneca Avenue and Greene Street? Thats my theater! Wow, I didn’t think that the Majestic was that old. The Majestic is already listed on here and it was in Ridgewood, Queens. I need to update that theater.
Forget the airdome theory, there was only one building on this property. When this property was first registered with Kings County it was two lots with two addresses. It was known as 153 and 155 Green St. If the build date is correct, there has been one 50 x 100 foot building that spanned both 25 foot lots since 1908 using the address of 153 Green St. How about a vaudeville theater being built in 1908 and later becoming a movie theater. Could this theater have changed names around 1925-26 and that is the reason for the two names in the 1926 FDY?
Since this theater is listed as Green “Street” in 1926-27 regardless of the spelling, it had to be in Greenpoint. The other Greene St was renamed to Greene Ave back in the teens so that eliminates that street. We have a real theater with a probable location. Thats good enough for me. If the location turns out to be wrong, I’ll pay the $1.59 wrong location fee. :) If we don’t take some risks with these Brooklyn theaters, they will always be missing from here. One more question before I add this theater, is there any listing for this theater after 1927?
I think your change of name theory could be correct. No listing after 1927 at this address, so it probably only lasted a few years and closed as talkies came in. It’s not in the 1930 Film Daily Yearbook. Better get it listed lostmemory before this page becomes the Arcade Theatre/Greene Street Arcade Theatre debate. Thanks!
Ken….Whatever the name of that theater was, I just added it. Okay, I have another fifteen Brooklyn theaters for you to look up. (just kidding) Thanks for all of your help.
The Woodrow building had been replaced by two small one story buildings at some point:
