Opened in 1915 as Leger’s Theatre for showing silent movies. Remodeled and renamed Bijou in 1918. In 1929 sound was added. Closed in 1971. Purchased by bank and donated to theater group in 1975. Purchased by the town in 1978. Continues to operate as the only municipally owned theater in Maine. Features live performances and movies.

Hi my name is Donna I run the Pittsfiled Community Theatre for the Town. We have now 262 Seats. We are still owned by the Town of Pittsfield. We are open at 7:30 every evening. We show first run movies. Right now we are fundraising to up date our sound system
concession area theatrical lighting and a whole lot more if you know any one that can help us out please email me.

From 1955, a photo of then president Dwight Eisenhower giving a speech in front of the Bijou Theatre in Pittsfield.

Looks as if the Secret Service tried to blend into the crowd wearing those distinctive hats back then rather than black suits and sunglasses.
