Mid 1980s sketch I made from a published photo of the interior of the Fox Theatre, Richmond, CA. I include it here because no interior photos have yet surfaced of what the Belmont looked like after its late 40s Skouras era remodeling. The interior of the Fox Richmond looks virtually the same as the way I remember the Belmont looking when I went there several times in the early 70s. These maiden figures–done in shades of blue and blue-grey–were housed in circles, which were linked by the typical swirling painted foliage so popular at that time. Around the swagged and fringed red velvet curtain were more swirls done in gilded plaster, and above the middle of the curtain was a large, shell-shaped flourish.
