This is an old theater that was built as a live performance venue. It was converted to a cinema in 1939. Restoration began in October of 2005.

Various editions of the Film Daily Yearbook give differing seating capacities:1941 = 400, 1943 = 322 and 1950 edition 1950 gives 315.
