The Texas Theater opened in 1950. Seating was provided in orchestra and balcony levels. It was closed in the late-1970’s.
In the late-1980’s I found the Texas Theater to be closed. It was housed in a nice light brown brick corner building. It had a neat “Texas” size vertical sign. Inset into five individual red blocks, T-E-X-A-S was spelled out and trimmed in neon. It was surprising to find a theater like this closed and vacant in this time period.
In 2014, work began on renovating and restoring the Texas Theater, with plans to re-open as a movie and live theatre.
