One of two of downtown Sturgeon Bay’s theaters (the other being the Donna), and both on Third Avenue, the Door (named for Door County) was an Art Moderne conversion of Sturgeon Bay’s former opera house into a 550-seat modern movie house. While the Door and Donna Theatres both closed as movie houses around 2000, the Door remains vacant while the former Donna is today used as a legitimate playhouse.
