The 1950 edition of The Theatre Catalog lists the Roane Theatre at Rockwood as a 1949 project by architects Marr & Holman. It doesn’t say if it was new construction or a remodeling.

As late as 1953, there was a second theater called the Ritz in Rockwood, listed in the Motion Picture and Television Almanac. Here is a painting of it by a local artist who goes by the single name Susanne. It might be the same house that appears as the Lyric in this painting depicting Rockwood in the 1940s.

Susanne also has a painting of the Roane Theatre.

My reply from an email to the Morgan Co. Chamber of Commerce, Charles, Yes there was a Roane Theatre in Rockwood, it was located at the corner of W. Rockwood at S. Front St. the address from record lists it at 106 W. Rockwood. I hope this information is helpful.

The address was 106 W. Rockwood so the header can be updated.

Good information. There was a Princess Theater in Harriman, TN and there was a Roane Theater in Rockwood, TN. that dates back to at least the 1940s. Maybe this theater should be listed as being in Rockwood, TN.

The Roane was listed as being in Rockwood in the 1970 motion picture almanac. It was part of Rockwood Amusements. Nothing was listed in Harriman at that time. This is from the 1970 IMPA.
