Kewpie, They are trying to get the money raised to restore this theater. I am really hoping I can see both the Nomar and the Orpheum restored. Having both of them restored will increase Wichita’s quality of life.
Enjoyed seeing your sharp photos Keith. A real shame such a classy theatre is sitting unused. Those stacked side exit doors (5/29/09 post) indicate stadium style seating. Is this assumption correct? Looks as if other area businesses also carried a Spanish style motif which makes for a nice neighborhood look.
Great pictures GUYS.
Here are some pictures I took inside the Nomar:

Another 1985 photo is here
Just saw on the news tonight that they several local citizens are planning on restoring the Nomar. They are trying to open it in a year.
1985 photo of the Normar Theatre. As Keith said the building is still there but the beauty of the front has been painted over and the marquee is gone. Looks like the theatre had a decent sized parking lot next to it.

It is named the Nomar Theater because it is on North Market Street. It is now vacant.
I have a picture of the Nomar from the mid 40’s. It shows the front facade and part of an adjacent grocery store.
This is a recent photo of the Nomar Theater building.
