The Golcha Cinema opened on 12th December 1954. It was designed by W.M. Namjoshi in what could be described as a splendid example of 1950’s retro-Art Deco style.
The exterior has a cement rendered facade which is painted pink. There is a cut-out lettered sign on top of the building and a vertical fin sign over the entrance at the right hand side.
Inside the auditorium seating is provided in stalls and balcony levels. Illumination is provided by scalloped coves which decend towards the proscenium, each having troughs of concealed lighting within them.
It remains open as one of New Delhi’s popular cinemas.
