It’s October 17, 1946 and time for the fledgling Adelman circuit’s Grand Opening for the Metro with the film, “Ding Dong Williams.” Off to a poor start, Video Independent Theatre head Tom Griffing. took on the Metro in October of 1949 only to close it five months later on April 3, 1949. With an uncertain future, the theater is re-opened on Nov. 11, 1949 (at at right). And the theater would celebrate its thirtieth anniversary and beyond attracting audiences from McMurry Colleage and Abilene’s south side for decades.
