The Imperial Theater was built in the early 1920’s as a movie house for the growing railroad town of Brunswick MD. When opened, it featured a Wurlitzer organ, rotary stage and beautiful tile floors.

In the mid-50’s, the theater began to screen mostly Westerns. To add special effects, smoke was blown into the theater and gunshots, as well as horse hoove sounds were produced behindthe curtain.

At Christmas, the stage was used to display a Christmas tree, which could be lowered under the stage during the movie. Sadly, the theater closed in the mid-70’s. Then, when the fire company bought the building with plans to turn it into a new garage, it collapsed, never to be rebuilt again.

Today, the site is a vacant lot.
