The Tivoli Theater lasted well into the 1970s, primarily as an adult theater on Fifth Avenue, west of downtown Gary.
The theater had a history as a regular movie house from its opening in 1928, but fell into decline as the remainder of the city declined. The theater ultimately closed, and like most of the other older theaters in the city, the building housing the old house was left to decay and was eventually demolished.

A Barton theater organ size 3/12 was installed in the Tivoli Theater in 1928. Note: Later moved to Paramount Theater in Hammond, Indiana.

The Tivoli was built in 1928 for Peter Kalleres. This was mentioned in his obituary, published in the January 23, 1943, issue of Boxoffice Magazine.
