The Bakhtar Cinema reopened for the first time in more than five years in November 2001. As the Northern Alliance entered the city and the Taliban fled, Kabul residents poured into the 586-seat movie house for screenings of “Urudj and Elan”. Despite this new sense of freedom in Kabul, women were still not allowed into the theater.
It is privately operated and is located in front of the Ministry of Justice.
