WHP, This from Bill Barkley.{the last Union projestionist from Local 518}. “to answer,WHP’s Question,‘Scotty and Boots’ had a one hit wonder called "Money,Marbles and Chalk”.I always felt it was a song about getting old,and i was a young man in those days. They were sponsored by VIM-HERB for colds.Heck,It was 60 proof. One could get drunk,Whp.Hope that helps.“ ..Bill Barkley.
thanks Cwalczak.So much.
There were actually two Modjeska theaters in Augusta and for awhile, both were in operation according to the information on p. 42 here (you may have to scroll down to see the dual ad and the picture of the second Modjeska): http://tinyurl.com/26mv9sb. There is also a picture of the Modjeska marquee being removed further down on p. 51.
Thanks Robert as you can see it went soft-porn by the seventies.
I remember one Sunday, in the fall of 1965 when a movie call “Nude in a White Car” played here. There was a line down the street past the imperial that day. It all alot of soldiers going to see the film. Of all the films I saw, the short time I was at Ft Gordon, that was the first time the balacone was open. We would go to the Miller and Imperial too. But on a hot day it was nice to see a double feature in air. The lobby needed alot of work. The Auditorum was not bad. It was done all in blue. I will remember my time there

According to a old projectionist Mr.Beaufort, he started work at the Modjeska as a young kid in the 30’s and he told me it was a show palace. I have a friend here,Stage Manager of the IMPERIAL,Tim Campbell who is working up a better history on this and the DREAMLAND in Augusta.
Honestly, I know you were watching the EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN. Tim, said he’ll put everything on CT.
Hi, Mike. “The Great Escape” was a year old before that Modjeska engagement. I remember the Modjeska getting some good action pictures, but always as late subruns or reissues. I wonder if in earlier decades it was a bonafide first-run theater that competed at least a little with the Miller and the Imperial.
NOW SHOWING a pretty decent picture for the Modjeska THE GREAT ESCAPE. JUNE 5 1964.
NOW SHOWING JUNE 7 1964 DOUBLE FEATURE SOLDIER IN THE RAIN and ONE EYED JACKS,
NOW SHOWING JULY 6 1964 OPERATION BIKINI
NOW SHOWING JUNE 6 1965 EVIL OF FRANKENSTEIN and NIGHTMARE
NOW SHOWING JUNE 3 1966 GIRLS OF THE NIGHT
March 31 1972 The Modjeska is playing its regular fare. THE STEPMOTHER. Rated R. The newspaper here made them take out the word SIN in the ad and add TRANSGRESSION. Shows start at 12:30.
