The Cinema opened as the Columbus Theater on November 17, 1928. It had a stage for live shows, but was mainly run as a movie house. After a fire gutted it in 1982, it was renovated. They split the main auditorium into two screens, and the balcony became a third screen. The same family still owns the theatre. The theater is open seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Whiteville had a drive-in called the Starlite, which I understand served two purposes, a drive-in theatre and a drive in resturant on the front or outside. Any information or photos would be great.

There was also a theatre in Chadbourn, on the main street I understand, any information or photos?

ccc you are probably talking about the Chadbourne Theatre located on N. Brown ST (410). It was open in 1940 and lasted until at at least the late-1950’s. The theatre seated 460. Chadbourne also had two drive-ins.
