The theater opened on May 19, 1949.
The theater was owned and operated by Badger Outdoor theaters of Minneapolis.
The capacity was 450 cars.
The theater entrance was on Highway 51 (now Business 51) and the exit was on Paper Mill Road (the street has been changed, not sure what it’s now).

On the documentary video of the Fox Theatre, I remember hearing that the 51 Outdoor was operated by the same people as the Fox and the Lyric.
Here’s a link with a picture of the 51 Outdoor Theater.

The 51 Outdoor Theater is where I thought it was. The entrance and exit road of the theater is called Theater Dr. (The road is still there behind the bar.) The exit went out to Tommys Turnpike.

There is presently an empty grocery store on the site.
About half of the ramps from the theater are still there. I saw them on a recent aerial view of the property from map quest.
The drive-in was operating in 1977, the drive-in closed for the season on November 13, 1977. The last movies for that season were “Maniac†and “Cannonballâ€.
