The Regency Cinema opened in San Rafael around October 1983. To this day it is still one of the best places to see movies in Marin County. Screen #1 is in a large auditorium, and is wide enough for 70MM movies. Theaters #2, #5, and #6 are quite large and comfortable also. Theaters #3 and #4 are smaller. For its first six years of operation, it was the only place to catch a daily matinee in Marin, and was always playing to sellout crowds.

In 2001 it was nicely refurbished by Century Theaters, and was recently sold to Cinemark. For the most part they now play more “upscale” movies and are not quite as busy as they used to be.

Per the box office attendant, seating capacities for the various screens are as follows:
1 – 392
2 – 292
3 – 130
4 – 130
5 – 241
6 – 294
Total seating capacity: 1479
