MARCH 1946

The Colonial Theatre was openedJune 21, 1916. It was operated for many years by John Sherwin.

In 1961, the building was sold to Gordon & Wilma Brown who operated the funeral home next door. The slanting floor was leveled and the theatre auditorium was converted into rooms for visitation and funerals. The two buildings are connected together. The establishment is now known as the Brown-McClay Funeral Homes Inc.

The Theatre Historical Society on-line archive has the MGM Theatre Report for the Colonial; it’s Card # 573. Address is “Main St.” There is an exterior photo dated May 1941. Condition is Fair. It says it opened about 1916 and is not showing MGM films. There were 247 seats. The 1940 population of Bristol was 1,200.
