The first floor ballroom at the Victorian Town Hall has in the past been used as theatre concert hall and cinema. It is a lavishly decorated room with a flat floor and a small balcony. In 1943 cinema tickets were priced at 6d to 1/3d.

Today it is used as a ballroom and meeting room.

The Town Hall opened for films on 14th October 1909, it continued as a full time cinema until other purpose built cinemas opened in the town. From at least 1937 until 1947 it is listed as being used for ‘occasional pictures’.
