The Lewis Theatre opened in 1939. In the summer of 2008, plans were proposed by the owners are to renovate the 500 seat auditorium into a stadium seated 98 seat performance hall. Trillium Performing Arts Collective will lease the theatre for dance and other performing arts. A second performance hall will be added behind the current movie screen wall.

The goal was for construction to begin in the Fall, 2008 and to re-open in six to eight months. However, these plans are on hold for the time being, and in 2009, the Lewis Theatre continues to operate as as a first run movie theatre.

I’m working on a slideshow of the history of the Lewis Theatre. Lost Memory, do you have any other/older pictures of the Lewis? Where did you get the one from 1984? I appreciate any information or pictures I can get from you. Thanks!

The Lewis was reconfigured in 2009 with stadium seating, a floor level performance stage, theatrical lighting, a DVD projector, deco style interior painting and backstage work. Second and first run movies, plus some foreign, classic and documentary films are shown almost every night. Live performance is featured 1-3 times a month. Classes and rehearsals for Trillium Performing Arts, founded 1982 as a community and professional nonprofit arts organization, take place on stage. Private rentals are also available. The business is owned locally and family operated. Find the Lewis Theatre and Trillium on Facebook.
