Opening of the Rio Theatre at Blythe was announced in Motion Picture Herald’s issue of May 1, 1937. It was built by W.J. Shurtleff and leased to operator Robert Dunagan.
It’s now a Spanish church, more specifically the Seventh Day Adventists.
Opened in 1937 closed in 1955
It’s a church, but it doesn’t look as if they’ve inhabited the shell of the theatre. It just looks like a regular church – possibly the Rio has been demolished and the church rose up in its place.
The given location is incorrect. The Rio theater is in S. Main Street, little north of Interstate 10.
See this as well. http://www.paloverdevalleytimes.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubsectionID=1&ArticleID=16586
