The Apollo Theatre was situated in the Sham Shui Po district on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong.
It opened to business on 13rd February, 1953, and showed first run Chinese dialect and selected English language films until its closure on 15th April, 1977.
Since the theatre had a stage, it served as a venue for Cantonese operas from time to time in the 1950s and 1960s.
A residential building was built on the site of the theatre.

Apollo was situated less than a 5 mins walk away from the council estate I grew up and I had my first movie experience there when I was 5. Can’t remember which movie but it could be a Walt-Disney product.
Its Chinese name is 新舞台戲院.
OMG, I finally found my childhood cinema on Castle Peak Road. I used to see lots of Cantonese movies at the Apollo, including tons of Yum Kim Fei and Connie Chan Bo Chu classics. My uncle also used to take me to the English language 5 pm factory workers' break matinees there too!
