Motion Picture Exhibitor, Aug. 1, 1962: “Services were held for Mary Worley Oliver, 84, at Shamrock, Tex. … Mr. and Mrs. Oliver in 1921 opened the Liberty at Shamrock and later the new Liberty and Texas.”
Opened August 1, 1917 during World War I, the Liberty purchased a Phototone disc system bringing talkies to town in March of 1929. It appears to have ceased operations at the end of 1960.
The Liberty Theater would have been in the even numbered 200 block of N. Main Street, given the Texas Theater also pictured located across the street at 217 N. Main Street. Which should also be added to Nearby Theaters and vice versa.

Monte Hale, the western movie star, will make a personal appearance both this afternoon and tonight on the stage of the Liberty Theater in Shamrock. The western singing star will appear at the Shamrock theater in connection with the showing of his latest picture, “Under Colorado Skies.”
Siebert Worley, Liberty Theater manager, said he is planning a big program with Monte, his picture and another feature “Arkansas Judge” with the Weaver Boys and Elviry of National Barn Dance fame. After the show tonight, Monte is scheduled to be in Dumas for the final day of the Dumas Dogie Days. He will appear at the Evelyn Theater in Dumas, besides taking part in the parade.
I was in Shamrock last year. I saw the historic gas station but no theaters. Of course we were a little out of sorts after getting pulled over by a Ranger just outside of town. Just a friendly warning not to speed, no jail time.
I’m pretty good at finding former theatres and I’ve been in Shamrock twice and I’ve never noticed any hint of another theatre besides the Texas. I would guess the Liberty has been destroyed. Nothing to do with theatres but I would guess that anyone who likes old theatres and restored to all it’s Art Deco glory, would love the restored CONOCO Gas Station and Diner (now the Chamber of Comerce) in Shamrock. It’s worth getting off and is just south of Interstate 40. The station is on the northeast corner of N Main St/Route 83 and Old Route 66/E 12th St/TX 556 Spur. Looks great at night too with all the restored neon lite! (see a photo on the Texas Theatre/Shamrock site)
