Since at least 1941, this was one of the three nabes that once lined West Broadway on Minneapolis near North side. Like so many cinemas it finished its days as a porn house closing in the mid-1970s.

Opened in 1921 and was operated by American Amusement Co. and later by Publix. It went to an adult theatre in the mid 1960’s and closed in 1975.

I live about 4 blocks from where the Empress was, I was tearing out a wall and found a poster from the Empress advertising a movie released in 1922 called REPORTED MISSING starring OWEN MOORE and PAULINE GARON.

There was an earlier Empress Theatre located at 2605 Emerson Ave. N but it isn’t listed on CT. Anyone have any history of the earlier Emerson?

That address should have been 413 N. 20th Ave. N.
