Joy-Tex Theatre

Not one of the Houston’s finer show places, this bottom rung seond-run showplace was located in in the 300 block of Main. A haven for Republic westerns, B-movies and Columbia serials, the Joy Theatre was notorious for running exploitation films and holding late night burlesque shows on weekends. As a pre-schooler, my grandmother would leave me in the Joy Theatre all day while she worked downtown.
