I found the last ad for this theater. It appeared in the March 6, 1969 edition of the Palacios Beacon. On Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th, “Last of the Renegades” and an unnamed second feature were slated to show.

The Queen Theatre launched in 1929 by Russell Williams and Joe Deutsch. Under the Johnny G. Long Circuit in 1941, the Queen got a new streamlined look and new name becoming the Hollywood. It closed briefly in 1945 years because so many GIs left the area for the War effort. The Hollywood reopened after the War.

According to “Historic Matagorda County” by the Matagorda County Historical Commission, the Queen was the original name for the Hollywood. The Queen was, at one time, one of three theaters in Palacios. The other two were the Capitol and the Grenada. The Hollywood was also said to have been used for town meetings. It was closed in the 1960s, and it was the last theater to close in Palacios.
